“The recent announcement in England that new developments are to include mini wetlands as part of their sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) is welcome news. The benefits are multiple: Urban wetlands help manage unwanted water (wastewater, stormwater runoff, sewage treatment, and so on), they help land to heal following mining or other urban development, and they provide much needed habitats for wildlife. But the news also reminded me of my strange encounter with a furry friend a few years back…”
